Day 2 - July 13

Oh, boy, not sleeping terribly well. Woke up through the night and up early. Matt went and got me a latte while I laid in bed a while longer. He has so much energy. I’m having a hard time matching it.

It is cold and rainy this morning and we realized our Pickleball game is not going to happen. The courts are soaked and the wind is blowing. Headed up to Lido and had breakfast. All the food is so good, no matter where you eat, but the coffee? Ugh. Not so much. The latte from the specialty café this morning was not too bad.

After breakfast, realizing that Pickleball could not happen, we went to a line dancing class. It was a lot of fun and reminded me that I miss having this in my life. After the class, we attended a presentation about whales. It was very interesting and amazingly well attended.

We walked around a bit, went up to the Crow’s Nest at the very top of the ship. The seas were a bit rough and at the top of the ship, the deck was definitely moving around. I realized that I didn’t want to stay too long feeling that so we headed back down. Matt is curious about everything, as always. His fascination with everything in life is fascination to me. I love that about him.

By now, we realize that we could eat again. This is of course one of the main attractions on a cruise ship. Today, there is an Alaskan buffet in the main dining room. We headed down there and had a wonderful lunch. Sat with some other people and chatted a bit.

After lunch, I am so tired that I literally cannot power through the fatigue. We wanted to play some Pickleball but I wanted to lay down a few minutes. Matt was kind and patient while I fell dead asleep for well over an hour. After I got up and had time to make myself functional again, we headed up and played some Pickleball. The game is interesting with a metal court and wind conditions. It was fun but we realized that we probably don’t need to do it again.

We sat in the Lido Deck and enjoyed some hot tea and chatted for a hour or so. Tonight, it is formal night. We headed back to the room and got ready for a formal dinner with the nicest clothes we brought. Of course, there are a few people in jeans and only older people wear ties and jackets any more. It is a different world.

We had our picture taken and then headed into the dining room. It was a wonderful meal. The food just never disappoints. Everything is so good and the portions are small so you can enjoy them without feeling stuffed. We sat with some other people and enjoyed great conversation. Matt and another guy in the group were sharing stories about boats and planes and all the things Matt loves. It was nice to see him enjoying like minded people.

It was almost 10:00 by the time we finished dinner. Meals last a long time here which is also very nice. The courses come out slowly and there is a lot of time to chat and enjoy the experience. Feels a bit like Europe.

We headed back to the room and into bed. I had a hard time falling asleep, probably due to my nap. But finally sleep came and it was a pretty decent night. Still not hitting my seven hours but getting closer.
